Athlete Class of 2010

Southwest Soccer started as a club sport in 1979 with the goal of becoming an interscholastic sport. It wasn’t until the fall of 1982 that the goal was reached. Since then soccer teams have achieved at the highest level because of players like Edi and coaches like Ed Lue and Jaime Plaisance

Coach Plaisance says of Edi:

“Edi was runner-up for Mr. Soccer in fall 2009, was a three-time All-State player, and helped us reach the 2006 state tournament (the program's first state berth since 1993).

He was also a four-time All-Conference choice (the first in the program's history) and a two-year captain.

We won the conference in three of his four years as a starter. He led the conference in scoring in his final two years.

We were ranked as high as #2 in the state his freshman year, and as high as #3 his senior year. We finished ranked in the top ten in all four of his seasons.”

After high school, Edi was recruited to play soccer at Augsburg College and played four years. He tore his ACL twice but through rehab, he was able to continue to play. Augsburg was able to win an MIAC Championship and went on to play in the NCAA tournament. Edi received his BA in Exercise Science.

He is currently working at Spero Academy charter school in NE Minneapolis as the Operations Coordinator and is married to Alexandria Becerra. They live in Minneapolis. Edi still plays soccer with friends and family in several leagues.
