Paul Eddy

Paul Eddy

Athlete Class of 1952
1933 – 2012

The mention of the name, Paul Eddy, will bring to mind his relentless running as fullback carrying the football, and often a clinging gob of defenders, across the goal line. Eddy was a standout on the Southwest teams of 1949, 50, and 51, starring in the 1951 Twin City Championship game, and being named All- City as well as 1951 Minneapolis Conference MVP. Don't forget that Paul played both ways as a ferocious defender, and also was Captain of the team in his senior year.

Paul Eddy was not only versatile on the gridiron, he played two years of varsity Basketball, and by the way, was an outstanding performer in Track and Field, running the dashes and hurdles, and putting the shot. When not on the playing fields, Paul was an excellent student.

Paul continued his football pursuits after high school, playing at Georgia Tech and Gustavus Adolphus. A serious injury while skiing ended his Football career.

Eddy enjoyed coaching and playing several sports in his adult years. He developed a passion for golf and was very proud of the hole-in-one he scored at the Crow River Country Club in Hutchinson, MN.

Paul and Sharon Johnson were married in 1957. They settled in Hutchinson, where they raised Michael, Michele, and Susan. Paul's career was with 3M until his retirement in 1995. Paul passed away in 2012. He is represented at the 2018 SW Athletic Hall of Fame Awards ceremony by Sharon Eddy.
